Frequently asked questions
EYELASH EXTENSIONS
What are eyelash extensions?
Eyelash extensions are synthetic mink fibers that are applied to the natural eyelashes using a pharmaceutical grade adhesive. The lashes can be applied in three different styles based on your preference. Classic eyelashes are individually applied (one on one) for a natural but accentuated look along the eye. Hybrid eyelashes are a blend of classic lashes along with handmade lash “fans” to create a denser style along the eye, comparable to strip lashes . Volume lashes are handmade lash “fans” to create a fuller look along the eye, comparable to a double stacked strip lash. The lashes are only adhered to the natural eyelash and not the skin.
Do eyelash extensions pull out my natural eyelashes?
When applied incorrectly, eyelash extensions can appear “heavy” or “clumped”. Often times, technicians overuse adhesive and choose extensions that are too thick and heavy for the natural lash, which can easily clump together forming a glob. If too heavy, the mass can tug and pull out the group of natural eyelashes it is attached to, leaving a bald spot along the lash line.
However, not all eyelash extension experiences have to be negative!
When applied properly by a licensed and trained professional, eyelash extensions can be worn comfortably and shed naturally with the hair cycle. The extensions should blend with the natural lashes for a seamless appearance while accentuating the eyes.
I have sensitive eyes. What are my options?
For clients with sensitive eyes, please send an email to schedule a patch test. This will allow us to assess for any allergic reactions to the adhesives and serums used during the service. For first time clients with eye sensitivity who are scheduling prior to an important event (E.g. wedding, travel, birthday, interviews, and meetings, or more), we suggest a patch test or appointment to be scheduled at least 5-7 days before the date. This provides sufficient time for the technician to do a removal in any case of reaction. Disclaimer: Just as any allergic reactions can occur, there are some cases in which a client may experience or even develop an allergy or sensitivity to the adhesive or products used during the service. If you have developed a reaction, please contact your lash technician immediately or seek medical attention. You will need to provide medical clearance before proceeding with future lash appointments, although it is not advised to continue receiving this service.
I have lash extensions from another salon. Can I refill them here?
We are accepting any new and returning clients that have lash extensions from a different company within specific guidelines to ensure the safest execution of the service. We will inspect the set to determine if it is possible to refill the lashes. If the work is not applied correctly or the current condition of the lashes are not workable, we will require a removal in addition to a full set to be booked instead. A minimum of 40% retention must be in tact to be considered a refill.
How long does the service take? What can I expect during the process?
All appointments run approximately 1-2.5 hours depending on which service you are booking. The time frame is based on the consultation and the fullness of the client’s natural eyelashes. [Ex. A client with less natural eyelashes may only take about 1 hour versus a client with very full natural eyelashes may take the full 2.5 hours. Refill time frames will be based on the current condition of the lash extensions]. Clients lie down comfortably with their eyes closed during the application of the eyelash extensions.
When do I need to get a refill?
Due to the high volume of appointments booked, it is important to choose the correct service when scheduling.
Refills are recommended within 2-4 weeks after each session. To be considered a refill, there must be a minimum of 40% eyelash extension retention. This means the client must have at least 40% of their extensions left on their lashes. During your refill appointment, we will clean, remove any overgrown extensions, and fill in any lashes that may have fallen out during the natural hair cycle..
Any retention less than the 40% is considered a full set (pricing listed under each technician).
If you book your service incorrectly, it is not guaranteed that your technician will be able to fulfill the appointment if time does not permit. If you are unsure of how full your lashes are or when you should schedule your refill, please feel free to contact us for clarification.
Can I get refills indefinitely?
Proper aftercare and hygiene is of utmost importance to achieve the goal of the longevity of your extensions.
During your appointment, we inspect the following to ensure you are taking care of your extensions: healthy lash growth, proper cleansing of the extensions and eyelid, healthy lash line, and zero debris build up.
As long as all of these requirements are met, you may continuously receive refills on your eyelashes.
If you are not taking proper care of your extensions, we will recommend proper cleansing and care plans or possibly the removal of the extensions in order to let your lashes breathe and get to a healthier state.
How long will my extensions last?
Please note that all clients have different hair growth cycles and different habits when taking care of their extensions. Environment, personal habits, sleeping habits, and cleansing routine all contribute to the longevity of your lashes. Please read our LASH AFTERCARE procedures for more details.
Extensions are expected to last between 2-4 weeks.
How do I choose the style or look that I want?
All clients receive a full consultation before the service begins. During this time, you will learn of the different lengths, curls, and density of the eyelash extensions. All sets are 100% customized for each client.
Please be advised that not all looks are fully achievable and vary per person.
